So what’s been happening in Kingswood since the last report? Rehearsals are in full swing and we have now completed the visual show marching a complete package. We still have 2 horn spots and 1 guard spot to fill for the year with our friends from the States and 1 marching member to join after DCI Finals. This year we have Jared Brock, who will be joining us for Finals camp. Jared background is unique as he brings a vast amount of DCI experience to join the Corps this year. Our Visual Consultant Kent Lineberry is unable to be with us for finals due to starting a new venture in Illinois USA. Kent’s drill design has been outstanding as you will see when the Scouts take the field for competition this year. On behalf of the Corps we wish Kent all the best in his new future.

As the future of DCUK is not clear the Corps is very focussed on achieving a strong foothold back on the circuit. The marching battery headed by Carl with the support of Gavin Stace is making remarkable ground on cleaning the drum line book. It is clear to see at rehearsal that the members have moved up a gear and for the spectator, watch the last few sets of the closer when you will see pure quality of drum line that can not only play but march a highly technical book. (Fast and Furious). The Pit have made a big leap in performance under our very talented front line staff, our younger members are making a steady progress and the confidence is growing through each rehearsal. The Brass, small in numbers for 1st half but powerful in size are holding their own at the moment. Each section of the brass is pulling together to produce a programme that is demanding and challenging. It is clear to see that even our younger members have pushed through with the programme and can hold their own within the line. The guard have taken shape under Vicki, Katy and Nicki. The change of guard staff has made a difference in the writing of the guard book and will prove to be a section that will surprise a few people this year. Watch this space.

We are still continuing to raise funds to reach our target to improve the instrumentation and our current pit is expanding due to our very own Mr Fixit who continues to invent, build and produce resources which enhances our operational needs. Ian has managed to pimp up the truck build all the new brackets for mounting the bells and continues to look at other projects to enhance our look on the field. We have even managed to press gang grand parents within the Corps to strip drums down and revamp them for the season.

| We must not forget the rest of the parents who have been busy with making silks, uniforms and cooking at camp in which we are all truly grateful. As we look towards the future, we have a Royal Wedding to attend later this year with a stag night prior to the event, more about this later in the year. The Corps will be appearing at the Gig at the Grove on the 8th July which will also allow us time to have the usual Kingswood social prior to our first appearance back in BYBA. |

From a Directors point of view, even though DCUK is going through a difficult period I am pleased with the progress we have made this year. I am conscious about the future of the DCUK activity, however I am focussed on the 37th being around for a long time and growing into a successful organisation. It is clear to see that our members have qualities that cover a broad spectrum of life experiences and the continued development of a well driven organisation will help to set them up as they mature into their future careers. Lets look forward to a great season this year, for those that follow us, keep an eye on the changes appearing throughout the year……………………
