Only 2 weeks until the first DCUK show with 75% of this year’s programme being completed. The members are working hard with the production and the feel from the members is most positive. All sections are showing the determination to succeed and the staff are buzzing about the progress being made. We have had a number of visitors at rehearsal checking what is going on and the impressions and feedback have been positive.
Since the last news update we have completed our visual camp and have also completed one of the Corps main fund arranging events, in which we have raised a tremendous amount of capital, a true reflection of the amount of hard work and support the parents have put in to make the event a success. On behalf of the Corps I would like to thank all who were involved.
On the social side, the senior Corps has maintained the enjoyment factor, which makes this a major fun aspect of the Corps. I am sure the new members are getting used to the party atmosphere. 1 of our new members did ask about the famous barbeque, Thanks to the breakfast team at camp we were able to enlighten him will our Corps Barbeque experience, thanks to Eric, Carol and Karen. The Corps moved lock stock and barrel to Pontins and numerous positive reports have followed including the Hawaii night in which the members made the effort to add a colour spectacle to the evening’s event, which also added to the captain croc crew. The Corps has held a skittles night that was well attended by parents and members from senior and cadets. With two lanes in operation the cadets were in full swing with shoes added on to the tops of the skittles and the senior corps looking for the nearest dwarf to launch down the lane. Again another great night and the shape of things to come on the Corps social front.
So what is on the horizon? Well as the members work on finishing the show we are nearing a point where we still have spots to be filled. With only 2 spots to go the 37th will be marching a total of 43 members by second half. Dan will be leaving in May to tour with Colts and by August should have returned with 2 members who have aged out from Colts to march with the Brass line. Erin and Harrison will be marching a complete second half with Corps and will perform at the remaining DCUK shows. Unfortunately, due to starting a new job on the High School circuit in the States, our programme visual consultant Kent Lineberry will not be available to join the Corps for finals week. In his place we welcome Jared who will be shaping the Corps leading up to finals. (More about Jared later on in the year.) We welcome Taylor Cartridge who has joined the Guard for her first year season with the Corps. Taylor has marched with Pride of Bristol A class guard in winter guard and is new to the summer guard activity. We would like to wish Taylor all the best this year, as she is the youngest marching member in the Senior Corps.
The design staff will be meeting in the next couple of months to discuss the 2007 programme and the strategy in the Corps direction. At present we will be making only one appearance at a BYBA show and will be looking towards returning to compete on the BYBA circuit at the same time competing on the DCUK circuit. If anyone is interested in marching with the 37th for the 2007 programme, please e-mail our recruiting officer for details on this site.
The fund raising continues in our bid to enhance the instrumentation with significant success thanks to Ian Holt who has been instrumental in the success with the grant applications. What was a dream at the beginning of the season is starting to become reality. We are looking towards renewing the cymbals and front line gongs, which should be with us by close of business June. Our main focus now is on renewing the front line ensemble, the marching battery and the contra’s, which is the long-term plan. Who knows we may even change our image?
The Drum Line are powering ahead now and the strength boosts the programme with dynamic visual effects and a technical approach to this years drum book. Front line has picked the game up with the new ensemble staff in place, (Debs, Dave S, and Dave W). We welcome Dave Walters who has now joined the front line ensemble staff at 37th who was recruited or pressed ganged during Pontins.
The Brass who are only 11 strong at the moment is making big leaps in performance, John Webber is now back at the helm with the occasional sighting of Steve Brown who keeps the brass fired up during rehearsal. The transition from last year to this year with the younger members of the brass section has been phenomenal
Last but not least the guard, Vicki, Katy, Nicky and Tanya are all working hard to have a production that will put the edge on the visual performance of the Corps. The staging of the guard has been written well this year by our designer to encompass the integration with the Corps and Guard. All sections have worked hard to achieve their status back in DCUK this year and I am sure we will soon find out our destiny in June when we take the field at Grantham. Bring it on…………………… |
