The unit provides a two tier structure for a younger element that feeds into the senior part
of the organisation. This is controlled by two appointed Corp Directors, who manage the
activitiy operations on behalf of the executive committee. The Cadet Corps provides

opportunities for children aged between 8 – 14 years of age to learn a musical instrument and march a yearly show on a competitive circuit. This is the first stage for learning the basic rudiments and techniques on either percussion or brass instruments. Those who wish to participate in the performing arts of the show, have the opportunity to become a member of the Colour Guard (Dance Troop). More information about our cadet corp can be found here.

The transition from Cadet to Senior Corps starts around the age of 14 and members can then participate up to the age of 25. Throughout the activity we concentrate on providing a fun activity, while at the same time being able to enhance musical education in particular musical fields. Members, who have been successful and have taken the opportunity to audition in the United States, have performed with some of the top Drum Corps on Drum Corps International Circuit (DCI).
Drum Corps is a summer activity, starting in the winter months learning new music for the yearly performance. This includes rehearsal on Tuesday evenings and all day Sunday for the Senior Corps and Friday evenings for the Cadet Corps, and the Senior Corps also hold 4 camps a year. This timetable of events is designed to accommodate people who work and have extra studies to complete. Both the Drum & Bugle Corps and the Cadet Corps compete
on the Drum Corps United Kingdom Circuit (DCUK), which concludes with a Finals performance in early October.

The Corps is controlled by a top-level management team who are overall responsible for the Corp. Within this management group are parents who manage the budgets, logistics, transport and support activities. An average budget for the year requires £9K for operations of the Corps throughout the season and further costing is required to maintain instruments or purchase essential equipment. The Corps runs a fete in April and the members fund raise during the winter months.

Staff who teach at the group come from professional backgrounds with both musical and business skills. Members who age out have the opportunity to join the staff and further develop their leadership skills. The organisation has increasingly engaged with consultants from the USA in recent years and this is an ongoing opportunity for professional consultants to work with the members and enhance their skills to the highest possible standard achievable. This has also opened further opportunities for kids to carry out exchange trips with our US colleges and this year will see this venture take shape.
